SOLAR PV SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY

Solar energy - photovoltaic energy and solar panels installations

The Sun is undoubtedly the largest available source of energy. It is surprising that its energy is used so little, although it is free.

Photovoltaic effect

The Photovoltaic effect allows us to get electricity from the sun directly. Photons of sunlight falling onto silicon solar cells, where they set off their crystal lattice energies and the electrons become free.

The most commonly used material for solar cells is silicon. Solar cells are small, usually with a plate measuring 12x12 cm. A solar cell is able to create the maximum output voltage of 0.5 volts and electric current to 3 A.

In order to achieve higher values, combine the cells into solar panels and solar panels into the solar systems. Today's typical use of solar power panels is to reach 245 to 270 Wp. Watt-peak (Wp) is a measure of the nominal power of a photovoltaic solar energy device under laboratory illumination conditions. Watts peak is a convenient measure because it enables one to compare one module with another.

In UK You can earn from 850 to 950 kWh / year from 1 kWp of installed PV power.

Solar panels

On the market you can find two basic types of panels based on the used cells:

  1. Crystalline silicon panels
By far, the most prevalent bulk material for solar cells is crystalline silicon. Crystaline silicon panels are the most expensive, but they are also the most efficient, so less area is needed. Single crystal cells work better in hot weather and low light conditions than multicrystalline cells.
  2. Thin film panels
Thin-film technologies reduce the amount of material required in creating a solar cell. Though this reduces material cost, it may also reduce energy conversion efficiency. Thin-film silicon cells have become popular due to cost, flexibility, lighter weight, and ease of integration, compared to silicon cells.

Installation methods

Roof instalation

Solar panels can be installed virtually anywhere where, where they will be subject to direct sunlight. Since taking up space that is valuable, we try to logically place the panels on the ground, which cannot be utilized otherwise. Roofs are the ideal area for your installation.

The ideal area for installation of photovoltaic power is a sloping roof with an orientation to the south. Mounting on a flat roof is also possible, but it is then a similar type of setup as an open area. Solar panels are fastened to the roof using a typical mounting system, consisting of aluminum structures, anchored to the rafters.

Field instalations

The panels can also be installed on an open area. The panels are attached to the steel structure anchored directly into the ground.
